My Students

Our school is a therapeutic day school program, the task of which is to provide emotional support and academic opportunities to children who have been unable to succeed in community school settings due to emotional, learning, and behavioral difficulties. The majority of our students live at a residential children's home and are wards of the state.

Our school runs as a trauma-informed program, aiming to help our students grow from their pasts and learn how to cope in effective ways.

Despite the challenges that our students face, they are incredible children. Their resiliency, love for learning, and curiosity are truly inspiring. I strive to make my classroom a welcoming and safe community and to help my students explore learning and grow into independent and productive citizens.

My Project

Across our school district, students bring in healthy snacks for an afternoon pick-me-up. Being well-fed and nourished is an essential piece of learning. My students do not all have access to these materials.

Though our school is very different, we strive to make our school as typical as possible for our students.

We want to implement a healthy snack time like every other school, but our students do not have access to bringing a healthy snack with them from their treatment center like other students do from their homes.

The snacks we are requesting are pretzels, granola bars, and goldfish crackers. They are favorites of the kids as well as healthy. We are also requesting gum! Our students love this as a positive sensory option throughout the day.

Additionally, this time is spent working on social skills. I like making our snack time more than just eating, but chatting about skills that matter. We go over challenges of the day and how we could have faced them in a more positive manner. This time of the day is more than just snacks - it's a social skill building time so my students can grow from each challenge they are faced.

Without generous donors, my students will go without. I, unfortunately, do not have the funds to purchase healthy snacks for all of my students for the school year. Please consider helping my classroom and deserving students thrive.
