My Students

My 18 students are bright, energetic, and fun loving. We do our best learning by doing and we always look forward to hands-on activities and being properly fueled. These young learners have not always been given a positive learning experience, so that is what our goal is this year.

I believe that each one of my students is capable of having a successful year; any help is greatly appreciated!

Located in the heart of Virginia, our city has a lot of valuable history, but now employment and resources can be hard to find. Many students come in each day saying they cannot study or get work done due to lack of resources. Some students eat only breakfast and lunch because those are the only meals provided at school.

My Project

I teach in a Title I school in Petersburg, Virginia. My third grade students are eager but hungry learners. They are constantly asking, "When is lunch? How long until lunch?" All of my students receive free or reduced cost lunches and all students receive free breakfast, yet they are still very hungry throughout the day. No child will learn when they are focusing on their growling stomach. These healthy snacks have tremendously helped my students get through the school day. My goal is to make sure this keeps going through June.

Healthy snacks have made a huge difference in their energy, their attention to learning, and their stamina.

They come to school hungry and learn better when they have a healthy snack in between breakfast and lunch. I have chosen nonperishable, healthy, fortifying snacks so that my students will have some nutrition during the four hours from breakfast to lunch.
