My Students

My students and I spent this year in distance learning. Even though distance learning has been a struggle for my students in different ways, we have created amazing routines, art projects and science experiments. At the end of February, many of my students and I will be returning to in-school learning. It will be challenging and wonderful at the same time. I am requesting these supplies to get my classroom ready for our upcoming circumstances.

We are living through history.

My students are incredible people. They come with tenacity, creativity, and a wide variety of experiences and gifts. We work hard every day as scholars, artists, critical thinkers, and friends.

My Project

My students are active learners and eager to return to in-school learning. After 10 months of Distance Learning, our in-person reality is going to be very different. One thing I do know, students who are hungry are too focused on when they will be eating next, to pay attention to the important things going on in the classroom. By giving my students a snack time, they will stay more focused on their studies. Particularly during this challenging time, it is so important that my students stay full, healthy and focused on our classroom activities.

In our classroom we are focused on our whole-body health, including our social emotional health.

Snacks, and equitable access to snacks, plays a large part in our social emotional heath. I also am requesting some exercise and yoga cards that address our physical and mental health--we will use these cards as a class to get our bodies moving. Part of my job as an educator is to teach my students good life habits, such as eating healthy foods and staying active. I've included popcorn, fruit snacks and rice cakes, all healthy snacks that my students enjoy. I'm also requesting some snacks that are little more unusual, like freeze-dried fruit, veggie chips and freeze-dried astronaut ice-cream sandwiches (I'm really excited about that one).
