My Students

My students and I spent this spring in distance learning and we are starting this year in distance learning as well. In many ways distance learning has been a struggle for my students; they are dealing with confined learning spaces, uncertain living environments and inequitable access to resources. My students and I are separated by sickness, uncertainty and space; at the same time, we are united by our love, our history together and our dedication to learning.

We are living through history.

My students are incredible people. They come with tenacity, creativity, and a wide variety of experiences and gifts. We work hard every day as scholars, artists, critical thinkers, and friends.

My Project

My students and I have been in Distance Learning all Fall. We're starting to get into a strong routine, which is the best possible outcome in this scenario. Because of some generous donations through Donorschoose this summer, I was able to provide my students with some great supplies to start our Distance Learning year. I'm discovering, as we go on, that my students and I are craving communal activities and experiences. We love doing science experiments together and art projects in the afternoon.

I think that snacks will give us an important collective experience during Distance Learning.

I can imagine inviting students to a hot chocolate independent reading party on a cold morning or a fun Friday afternoon popcorn get together. To that end, I have asked for popcorn, hot chocolate, a variety of fruit snacks and goldfish crackers. My students will also appreciate an additional boost to their kitchen cabinets during this difficult time. Thank you for considering this project. Your generosity will take us to the next level of community building.
