My Students
I teach eighth-grade science in a small, rural Tennessee town. We are in a high-poverty area, and many of my students do not always have the same opportunities as students in urban areas.
Creating the ideal classroom environment is critical to academic success.
My students are inquisitive, eager to learn, and love new challenges! Our new curriculum is project-based and enables all students to work independently through the required work. Progress is monitored through checkpoints, and students can easily see how they are progressing through their 8th-grade work.
As a teacher, it is my responsibility to expand my students' horizons. Providing them with activities that stretch their brains and provide them with a challenge will motivate and engage my students.
My Project
Healthy snacks. Everyone needs them, some want them, some can't afford them. With a high percentage of students benefiting from the Free and Reduced Lunch Program at my school, many students do not have the extra finances from home to purchase additional snacks.
Hungry students do not focus well!
I want to have a variety of healthy snacks for my students to choose from during the day, to help them to stave off those hunger minions and focus their minds on what the lesson of the day is or the work they need to complete.
