Help Mrs. Robb

We are a first grade classroom in a high needs, urban school. Over 50% of our students speak a language other than English, and 80% live in poverty.

All children need to understand where their food comes from and how to make healthy food choices. Children who live in the inner-city rarely see where their food comes from. Some may have not even seen or tasted unprocessed, whole foods.

We need books, photos, and materials to begin understanding where the food they eat comes from! We also need some hands-on ways to understand the new food pyramid, and what healthy food looks like. These materials are not provided by our district, but our students truly need them.

You will make it possible for my students to become "nutritionists" and understand where food comes from and how to make healthy eating choices. For many children who have immigrated to this country, they can take this knowledge home to their families. With childhood obesity rates climbing, nutrition education in childhood is the first step in leading a healthy life.
