My students need materials for outdoor activities because our school does not have a gymnasium. We want them to experience sports and activities they typically would not be exposed to in their daily lives.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a teacher at at FES, a Title 1, Achieve 180 campus in Houston, TX that has been recently affected by Hurricane Harvey. Ninety eight percent of our students are labeled economically disadvantaged and over half are considered refugees. All of the students receive free lunch. The majority of our students are labeled at risk or bilingual ELL.
Even with the odds stacked against them, these students never cease to amaze us with the effort they put forth.
These students are faced with challenges both in and out the classroom daily. Despite these challenges, they come to school everyday looking forward to learning while having fun.
My Project
These materials will motivate participation in Phyiscal Ed. Our students haven't experienced hockey or tennis, so this allows us the opportunity to expose students to something new and fun.
Students will actively engage in healthy activities and exercise that align with state curriculum and promote healthy living.
The hockey goals, sticks, and pucks will be used to introduce students to the sport of hockey. Student will learn the basics of street hockey and how this sport can be played safely. The tennis net will be used to introduce our upper elementary students to the sport of tennis. This sport allows students to improve hand-eye coordination and builds stamina in a fun way.
Our students are eager to experience something new and fun at school and this is a great way to develop positive student relationships and team building. Students may even chose to pursue these positive sports and activities outside of school and be active and the community. These materials will make a major difference in our Physical Education program and student team building.
