Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This year our first social issue is Toxic Food. We're breaking down the dangers of ultra-processed foods and how they affect students' physical and mental health. We're doing a deep dive into the gut's microbiome, the neurotransmitters involved in sugar addiction, and the role of the tobacco industry in creating junk food companies.

Middle schoolers are creating projects for a culminating Healthy Eating celebration attended by elementary school students.

During the celebration, middle schoolers will present toxic food podcasts and PSA videos, songs, custom-built healthy food vending machines, and board games.

To bring home the healthy eating message, I'd like our middle schoolers to learn how to cook healthy meals. To that end, they will be cooking up meals like crispy kale and whole grain rice, whole wheat toast and eggs, and whole wheat English Muffin pizza. To do this we need your help to buy cooking supplies usch as burners, pans, and cutting boards!
