This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Being active everyday means being healthy! Today the percentage of child obesity and diabetes continues to rise. We as educators are not just on a mission to strengthen their minds but also their bodies! In order to supply them with the knowledge on how to be healthy we need some equipment to do so.
My Kinder Grade-Level consists of about 85% English Language Learners, students with special needs (Autism), and English Only.
With them being Kindergarteners, many times we are the first experience they have in developing fine and gross motor skills. Many students are visual and kinesthetic learners. Therefore being able to internalize vocabulary and concepts means that they need to be able to experience it, act it out, and see and touch it.
My Project
By receiving tricycles and the Frisbee kits, they will be able to use vocabulary in real life scenarios. They will be able to see and act out such vocabulary as toss, throw, spin, pedal, and much more! They will also learn about how their bodies react to physical activities. They will experience how their hearts speed up and slow down, depending on what type of activity they are doing. They will also learn about how there are many fun ways to exercise and maintain healthy bodies.
My students will benefit in so many ways!
They will have fun and become more healthy while pedaling around on their brand new tricycles and tossing their Frisbees. Some of our students who are moving into that dangerous direction and are close to developing such conditions as obesity and diabetes will see that there are many fun things you can do while maintaining a healthy lifestyle. It will also help encourage families on what types of activities they can do at home.
