My Project

For many of our students, they come in hungry and tired and are unable to focus on basic tasks at hand. Having snacks for them enables them to get one of their basic needs met so they may then focus on what is going on in their classes. Many students rely on snacks as their food for the day and with cutting budgets, there is no money left for this need.

Although we try to provide healthier snacks, students eat non-healthy snacks the rest of the time and often get little exercise.

We do not have a gym at our school so must travel to the local city gym via bus. This cost then leaves little in the budget for physical education equipment that we must provide for class every week. This equipment is easy to transport, enables group activities and also provides us with variety to our typical physical education classes.

Many of our students only get exercise once a week in PE class and they really play hard and enjoy their 2.5 hr. class, especially when we do new games/activities. When they return from PE class, it is still an hour before lunch so they all have a snack or two to hold them over and help keep them focused for the next hour. Both a important for student to get a healthy body and keep a healthy mind.
