My Students

Dynamic, resilient, and motivated. Our students are city kids. They walk into school each morning after walking, riding the bus, or riding the subway, ready to take in all that school has to offer. We provide opportunities and they collect knowledge.

In one week, I will be greeting my new group of 2nd graders, and I couldn't be more excited!

They love to read, write, and be investigative mathematicians. One of the best things about the students in our school is how much they enjoy working in groups and how accepting they are of feedback and pushing themselves. I have 10 months to do my best to help my students love school, feel safe, and enjoy learning new things. Every year that I teach, I figure out new ways to work towards helping them achieve those three goals.

My Project

32 students are in my care from 8:50-3:15 each day. I teach them and help them understand community and empathy and send them home hoping they had a fun and successful day. These are the things in my control. Their health should not be secondary.

While those of us who live in New York City often call it the best city in the world, we also know that the quality of air in such a busy, full place can be less than adequate.

By providing my students with an air purifier for our classroom, I can at least control what they breathe in during the day. Air purifiers filter out toxins including pollen, pollutants, and other allergens.

By contributing to this project, you will be both helping my students breathe more easily, and helping me to sleep better at night knowing the classroom is that much healthier.
