Help me give my students skis, snowshoes, shovels, brick makers, and molds to use when they go out to play in the snow and hats and mittens to keep them warm.

Bozhoo! That is how you say hello in Ojibwe. I teach first grade students in a school that is located on a Native American reservation. Most of my students come from generational poverty, which can bring trauma. Every year, I do my best to create a classroom family where each child feels safe, successful, and loved.
From the moment we walk in the door in the morning until we go home, we are busy learning.
My students love coming to school and are such eager learners!
My Project
Very soon, we will have snow covering Northern Minnesota. Once we have a good amount of snow on the ground, our children won’t be able to play in the playground for months. All they will have is an open area, but they will not have any toys to play with in the snow!
Winter is almost here!
We are asking for toys that can be used outside in the snow. Many of my kids come to school without hats and mittens to keep them warm while they are having fun and getting exercise. The skis and snowshoes will be a great experience for the children that have not had the opportunity to play with them before. The shovels and snow brick makers will be perfect for making forts. This will help give them an important physical activity that could help them develop those healthy habits that will last a lifetime!
Miigwech (thank you) for taking an interest in our project!
