This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a sprawling, diverse crew that live in the Bronx. Art is and should be for everyone. As the Visual Art teacher at this K-5 elementary school, I believe it is especially critical for children to be exposed to the arts to build visual literacy.

Most of my students have never had access to the arts before, and they will be relying on our art classroom for the chance to visually express themselves!

I am so excited at the opportunity to invite young minds to engage in a world of creativity and innovation!

My Project

As the flu season, colder weather, and a spike in cases of the new Omicron variant have hit NYC, a need for basic health and hygiene products has presented itself in my classroom. Schools are fully open, and teachers are doing their best to disinfect their classrooms, teach students to wash their hands properly, and to maintain healthy habits.

Additionally, there has also been an increase of voices in my classroom for more water and food.

After the pandemic, all water fountains have closed to prevent the spread of the virus. We do not have easy access to drinkable water since.
