My Students
I have been teaching in a Title I school in New York. Our kindergarten is comprised of 30 English language learners and some ICT students, many of whom come from multi-generational households. They are also from non-English speaking low-income nuclear and/or extended families.
Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and to do their best every day.
Despite many economic and social challenges that my students face each day, I want them to know that I am an educator who wants them to succeed in our school community and local communities. I am interested in providing them with a safe environment and meaningful learning experiences every day in every subject such as social-emotional learning, science, reading, writing, math, computers, and social studies. My students and I are always excited to continue to explore "the how." Kindergarten children can safely interact with one another in the school environment.
My students are very interested in socializing with one another and learning with each of their peers in our classroom. We take pride in scaffolding their social-emotional state of mind and to become independent thinkers and to gain hands-on experiences.
My Project
The use of face shields and sanitizing wipes will almost be a daily activity in my classroom, especially when we are engaged in group activities in reading, writing, math, and social studies. For example, using the workshop model in social studies, students will gather on the rug with their face shields for guided practice, work with a partner, and to discuss strategies used to solve unknown words, and discuss possible solutions for Social Emotional scenarios. The face shields will allow each of them to orally communicate with me and their friends of what some possible solutions could be and why. What becomes a problem is the fact that with the COVID 19 virus, each of us need to be socially distanced.
By donating to my project, you will help improve my students' attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement especially with their oral communication skills.
Students will be able to simply focus on orally expressing their thoughts and ideas with their friends at hand, and not whether if s/he will be 6-feet away. Plus in this new school world, any safe interaction with their peers will increase their abilities to socialize and to communicate with one another as well as their desire to learn and not be afraid of getting the virus.
