My Students

I serve students in a self-contained autistic support classroom. The students in my class have diverse needs and require a high level of structure and evidence-based instruction and behavioral supports in order to achieve full potential. They come to school each day ready to be challenged to reach for the next bar, which looks different for each of them. Some of my students are learning to write their names. Others are learning names for common objects like shoes and pencil. Still, some others are working at-grade level and trying his or her very best during their inclusion time with their same-aged peers in regular education.

The students in my classroom deserve materials unique to their learning needs.

Each DonorsChoose.org project is selected with this in mind. A lot of times, the materials accessed through generous donations wouldn't be otherwise available to these students in any setting. For them, the materials we have in our classroom make a big difference!

My Project

Our students require extra, explicit practice with many skills. We practice adaptive skills such as brushing our hair and teeth, doing laundry, and putting on deodorant every day! Practicing these skills allows our students to be increasingly independent as they progress through their middle school years. We also practice social and emotional skills in a variety of contexts. Group games and physical activity are two favorites! Our students love jump ropes and balancing activities. Games like alphabet bowling allow us to incorporate academics, as well!

These students benefit from quality instruction across multiple domains.

These materials supplement the existing and consumable materials that address social, emotional, academic, and other adaptive/functional skills.
