Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have the privilege of working in the Accelerated Language Learning (ALL) Program, which serves the Newcomer students in my district. My students are immigrants and refugees who are learning to understand, speak, read and write in English, while at the same time learning grade-level academic content. My class is a multilingual, multicultural community where students are able to learn together and share their unique ideas and experiences.

My students motivate and inspire me every day with their perseverance, determination, curiosity, and creativity.

My Project

My students practice listening to and speaking their new language every day, and one important part of that is by listening to recorded information and creating videos and audio to respond and summarize what they know. We use headsets with microphones frequently, but because there aren't enough to go around, we share them both within our class and with other classes. Because of the dangers of Covid, sharing items like these presents risks.

Having enough headsets for each student to use without sharing would help to build their language proficiency and eliminate the dangers of sharing items during a pandemic.

In addition to headphones, we are also requesting other frequently used classroom items, such as individual whiteboards, markers, glue sticks and pencils, as well as binder pouches to keep our supplies organized and clean.
