This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This is my first year teaching in an NYC public school and I am fortunate enough to have such an amazing group of students! We are a 1st-grade special education classroom full of love, learning, and laughter! My students love to play, learn and care for one another. They love coming to school every single day. However, my students face many adverse situations every single day. Most of my students live in shelters, foster homes, and city housing projects. Some of my students come into class upset in the mornings because they didn’t get to eat, or their clothes don’t fit, or they simply don’t have a pencil.

However, with all those adversities, my amazing students come in with loving arms, eager to take over the world with their love and knowledge.

My Project

In our school, the students are required to complete reading and math lessons using an online program. It is required for the students to complete at least 100 minutes a week on these online programs. Not only, do we have to share the laptop cart with 3 to 4 other classrooms, but the programs speak words, sentences, paragraphs and stories to the students which make the classroom extremely noisy. Our students with special needs have a tough time focusing because the other laptops are distracting.

Therefore, these headphones will bring noise-canceling solutions to all of my students so that it could allow them to learn.

It will definitely help them achieve their required 100 minutes a week on these online programs.

The clipboards and dry erase markers are for the students to have during the math lessons, and also to practice writing their letters.
