My Students

Our school serves kindergarten through eighth grade students within the School District of Philadelphia. It is located in a close-knit neighborhood in the city, making our school a point of pride in the community. Our students come from a variety racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds, creates an exciting environment for both teaching and learning. We have an excellent Autistic support program in our school which also serves students in surrounding neighborhoods. Additionally, many of our students receive either free or reduced lunch through the federal lunch program.

My role in the school is really fantastic because I get teach technology classes in our computer lab to students in every grade!

Lessons and activities vary greatly based on grade level, but every student arrives to class ready and eager to learn more and more about computers and technology each week.

My Project

All of my students in grades K through 8 will benefit from a class set of headphones. My younger students utilize the computer lab by working on interactive educational programs (mainly covering literacy and math skills) in which they need to be able to hear directions in order to complete the activities. Currently we do not have any headphones in the lab, so when 30 students are working on the same program at once, it's extremely difficult to hear the directions that each is being given.

Older students typically work on various applications, often creating slideshows and movies in which they need to be able to hear the music, sound effects, and voiceovers that they are including in their projects.

Without headphones, students are having a difficult time concentrating on their own work. Having a set of headphones for every computer in the lab will help all of my students tremendously!
