Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is located in Homestead, Florida; we are a Title I school which means over 90% of our students are in a free or reduced lunch program, which indicates a low to moderate poverty level. Our students use computers on a daily basis. Computer use has provided them with opportunities to enhance reading and math skills, and are used for all subjects like science.

All students are able to use the computers in classrooms and labs through a Title I grant, but we don't have enough headphones for every student.

We have reached out to parents but its been difficult. This means that we can't take full advantage of using the computer programs on the desktops. These different programs help differentiate their learning as well, but the majority of these programs require them to listen to directions or stories being read aloud.

My Project

Our classrooms have desktops and a computer lab allowing each student to have a pair of headphones would allow us to incorporate more learning opportunities for each student. Some lessons may require them to watch a video and take notes or respond in writing. Some students can use a program like iReady to help them learn one on one. The possibilities would be endless if each student had a set of headphones.

If each student has a set of headphones that they can use on the computer, it would allow them to meet each of their learning needs.

Students with learning disabilities can have things read to them, the options are endless.
