My Students

I teach a set of wonderful 3rd grade students who live in a low-income community, a community that is mixed with violence and poverty. Each student has a wide range of academic, social and emotional needs.

They walk in every morning, looking for a simple huge, something that isn't always given at home.

Coming to school, sometimes is their only consistent "thing/person" in their lives. They know every school day, they will get breakfast, lunch and snacks provided by the staff.

My Project

Because we only have 25 computers for the whole 3rd grade, teacher often allow students to use their own teacher computers provided by the district, or their own desktop computer - I am asking for 40 headphones, to not only use within my classroom, but to also share among the other special education teachers, and for those days when a set breaks during a lesson.

Unfortunately, being in a Title 1 school district, it means not having the necessary tools for the students to " keep up" with the technology within the 21st century!

Each day, it is within our schedule to allow the students to use multiple learning websites ( imagine learning, prodigy, etc) to practice their subject skills within their academic levels. However, not all of our headphones work, meaning the learning is not always 100% successful! The students get easily distracted by hearing the computers around them, not being able to focus on them,especially when listening to a story through audio Providing the classroom with headphones, will allow the students to focus directly on their own lesson, and decrease their distraction level.
