This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have the pleasure of teaching at K-8 school in inner-city Philadelphia. My students live in a low-income area and face many challenges in their personal lives.

For me, music has always been an "escape" from life's challenges and I want to provide that same escape for my students in my classroom.

My hope is that bucket drumming, as well as other musical activities, will allow my students to experience a level of joy in their lives even when life can be difficult.

My Project

Donating headphones to my students will be a great help to them on their piano-playing journey. Each student has their own top of the line, full-sized, Roland digital piano in our piano lab. For the past few weeks, we have been learning and playing the piano as a class. Now they are ready to work on their own.

Having their own headphones will allow each student to learn independently and at their own pace.

Independent learning has been shown to improve academic performance, increase motivation and confidence, and will enable me to provide differentiated tasks for each student.
