My Students

I have the pleasure of teaching 7th and 8th grade math at a PreK-8 school in the North Lawndale neighborhood of Chicago. 97% of students at our school are low-income. At our school, we strive to provide all of our students with a high quality education and to prepare all students to be college bound.

My teenagers bring a wealth of energy, experiences, mindsets, and personalities into my classroom every day, but without the proper supplies, math class is reduced to working with a pencil on black and white photo copies.

Furthermore, my classes contain 40 students each with a range of mathematics proficiency levels from kindergarten to the high school level. With one-to-one technology, student access to differentiated material would sky rocket and their daily learning would come to life.

My Project

For 45 minutes a day, students are on one-to-one technology and are allowed a choice of various academic sites to improve a personal area of weakness such as Khan Academy or Study Island. Due to our large class sizes, many students like to listen to music during this time to get themselves in the zone.

Having these requested Koss headphones will allow all students to focus with music and not leave anyone left out!

This academic time is crucial for our students, as their technology assignments are specifically crafted for each student's strengths and weaknesses in math. With headphones, students will be able to optimize focus, maximize work time, and enhance academic performance!
