This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a special education inclusion teacher at a Title I middle school in Austin, Texas. My students are amazing kids who have a wide range of strengths and needs. Middle school can be both an exciting and challenging time for all kids, especially those who struggle with learning disabilities.

My goal is to help my students achieve academic and personal success through any means I can.

My students may come from a range of different experiences both at home and educationally, but they all want to learn and to be successful in everything they do. My students deserve access to any and all materials that will help them achieve that success, and your donation here today will go towards providing those vital materials.

My Project

The world around us is changing every day due to technology. In fact, it is estimated that 65% of students entering grade school will end up working in jobs that don't even exist yet. Teaching students digital literacy and incorporating technology into the learning environment is crucial to empowering successful students. Our classroom uses Chromebooks to access educational apps and websites that supplement our instruction.

Listening to audio on these learning platforms is crucial in maximizing the intended results of them.

Currently, our class has 4 pairs of headphones to share among 12 students. Sometimes students are sharing headphones, other times they are listening to the audio without headphones which becomes a distraction for everyone else in the room. Having a class set of headphones will greatly improve the access and use of our digital learning platforms.
