Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are low income minority groups (African American and immigrants/immigrant descendants). Many of them feel they will never be able to attend a post secondary institution. I prepare them with employability skills through my "Finance Program". At the moment, we are working on getting the Microsoft Industry Certification (Word Expert, Excel Expert, PowerPoint, and Outlook) as well as QuickBooks Online and Entrepreneurship and Small Business. I use Knowledge Matters Programs; at the moment we are working on Personal Finance, Accounting, and Entrepreneurship. We will be preparing for the MOS Industry Certification using LearnKey and GMetrix. I am a career change with experience in the field of Accounting, Human Resources, and Management. I bring my experience from my years in the business world to help them prepare for a career in Finance immediately after High School in positions like accounting clerk or bank teller, and to encourage them to seek post-secondary instruction. I am a minority (Puerto Rican born in NY), I was a single mother for 8 years and finished my Bachelor's degree while working full time as a single mother, I recently finished my Executive's Masters Degree of Business Administration so I have better skills to help them.

My Project

I work with students from 9th-12th Grade, they are part of the Finance Academy, all my students are minorities and/or immigrants. We use programs such as GMetrix, LearnKey, and Knowledge Matters. All these programs have videos embedded and we are in need of the headphones so they can properly learn for their industry certification tests. Now more than ever, we need to utilize technology for instruction to maintain the required social distance for safety.

We will use the headphones to listen to the instructional videos, and the wipes to clean them after every use to keep students safe during the pandemic.
