Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The film demonstrates an important struggle many young people around the world face. It is important that our students are aware and become sensitive to this global issue. The screening also supports the non-fiction units of study in English and Social Studies.

We are a Title 1 NYC public school with the diverse population of students, many of whom are the first generation Americans living in New York.

We are culturally diverse school with the majority of Hispanic and 76% of our students qualify to receive free and reduced lunch.

My Project

As students will attend this screening, they will engage in a lesson outside of the regular classroom setting. Following the screening, students will participate in class discussions and connect the theme of the movie to current grade level curriculum.

Attending screening of HE NAMED ME MALALA will sensitize our students about the issues that are important globally and locally.

It will also enrich their language arts curriculum and social studies program.
