My Students

People often ask me why I commute so far away to teach when I could work in a much more affluent community closer to where I live. The simple answer is because I have never been a happier teacher than when I'm with my students.

They make me smile, laugh, sing and dance, and challenge me every day.

There are 5 different primary languages in my homeroom this year, the entire district receives free breakfast and lunch due to high poverty levels and there's no where else I'd rather be.

My Project

Our school was originally a middle school that became an overflow catch place to put students when there was no more room in Kindergarten classrooms across the district. Over the years, we have been growing into one of the biggest in the district, but we are severely lacking in recess equipment. Because we have no playground, the children mostly spend their time running around in circles on the tar. I have always wanted to do something to make recess more fun. I have often spent my own money buying outdoor toys, however, when they are used daily by hundreds of students, they typically don't make it through the school year. With you donation to our project, our school will be able to purchase high quality sports balls for the children to use so that they can get moving and get themselves ready to learn when they return to class.
