My Students

My students are so incredibly enthusiastic about anything that gets their creative juices flowing! They enjoy projects and hands-on-activities that require time and patience. When they work in groups, they get the time to collaborate, which I feel is beneficial to them.

Technology is such a huge motivator in my classroom, so I use it at every opportunity to pull every student into my lessons.

Even topics that some students might find boring become more interesting and life-like when technology is implemented.

My kiddos also love critters! They adore learning about nature. I always make it a priority to raise monarch butterflies (in the fall) and chicks (in the spring) in my classroom each year. There are so many ways to teach math, science, and reading when the kiddos are so enthusiastic about the amazing events like the life cycle of a butterfly or chicks happening right before their eyes!

My Project

If you've never witnessed a chick hatch, then you've missed out! I'm happy to say that I have honestly learned from my students, and this is the perfect example: years ago one of my previous students brought a small incubator to school one day along with seven eggs. She asked if she could incubate the eggs in my classroom. Of course, I said yes! She taught me all sorts of things about the development of a chick, and we integrated this project into reading, math, and science. Now, I'm a country girl, but I'd never raised chicks like this! It was totally amazing to see those 7 eggs hatch after only 21 days, and I decided then and there that I would get my own incubator. I was able to do that from DonorsChoose. This project has taught many, many children so much as I have shared my incubator over the years. Now I need a new incubator as the one I have has some frayed wires, and I certainly don't want to disappoint my kiddos with eggs that didn't hatch because our incubator didn't work properly.

The new incubator I'm requesting has an EZ Scope which is basically a very bright light that will help us actually see the development inside the egg!

Normally, I just use a flashlight for this purpose, but this will be so much better! Can you tell I'm excited about this project? Well, I guess it's true! I enjoy it as much as the kids! I hope you can help me with this for many reasons, but the last one is pretty simple: this project makes kids EXCITED to come to school. It really does! That's why I love to share it with other teachers. Kids always remember the day the chicks hatch!
