My Students

My students are English language learners who are eager to learn and explore the world around them. I teach at a Title 1 school in Brooklyn where all students receive free breakfast, lunch and basic school supplies.

Most of these students do not have opportunities to leave their neighborhood.

My hope is to provide a classroom environment in which students can have engaging learning experiences. These items will allow us to learn about topics in a fun and interactive way.

My Project

In our classroom, students are usually engaged in hands on projects. They research and create models in order to help them learn about the history of the earth, animals and their community. Students will use headphones to research topics on iPads and computers. They will use the modeling clay, play dough and sand to create dioramas and models to support their research.

For each unit, we celebrate with a museum, which showcases students' artwork and highlights their learning.

This is such an exciting day where students take ownership of their learning.

My hope is that by providing students with opportunities for art projects to support their learning, they will be more engaged in these topics.
