Hats Off To High Achieving Readers

Help me give my students personalized hats as reading incentives in our classroom.

My Project

Literacy is a love I want to always pass down to my students. Many of them don't have a love for reading, but it is slowly developing. Their writing and love for different genres of literature have evolved since September. I expose them to different genres of books and I can see the difference it is making.

High achieving readers should be rewarded.

I recently got away from giving out candy and sweets as incentives. I have stopped giving out anything edible for incentives all together. Food should not be tied to high achieving performance by children.

I would love for my students to get to create/design a hat for high achieving reading tests, honor roll, accelerated reading programs, and I-Ready lessons completed. Each week I would choose a group of students who have excelled in one of these categories to bring their lunch back to the classroom, design a hat, and have it pressed. Students will be able to wear these hats once a week to show they have excelled in one or more of the reading categories.

I am certain that this will not only motivate the child that received the incentive, but it would also motivate their peers to read more, practice more, study harder, and it will also display reading comradery.

I am excited to implement a new incentive that I am certain all of my young readers will appreciate and enjoy.
