Help me give my students the ability to read more please! 6 years ago I started hatching chicks in 1st grade classes! These books will enrich over 60 kids each year about raising them with feelings & compassion!

My Project

6 years ago I started a chicken unit, incubating and hatching out a few eggs in one of our 1st grade classes. Now I am in 3 classes with over 60 kids each year!

Last year I taught the kids about farming and money and how much it costs to keep the chicks alive and growing.

Now the kids are excited to go home and become “farmers” themselves, working to do odd jobs for their family & friends to earn pocket “chicky bank” change. Each day they do math with the change they brought in & then do financials to figure out what products they need to purchase.

The books included in my wish list will help the children learn about raising the chicks, help with their emotions, teach them responsibilities and commitments to be able to hatch, feed, and raise a chicken to be put back into our community!

We all need more eggs! The time is now. Let’s start early teaching how & why!
