My Students

Help inner city students discover the wonder of a garden! Gardens are hopeful places. Tall plants emerge from tiny seeds; trees that looked dead in the winter bud, blossom and bear fruit the next year. Help give students more opportunities to hope and learn and experience the growth a garden bring.

Our school is a transfer high school located in the inner city in New York.

Our students come to us after they have failed to thrive in other city high schools. Many have grown up at or near the poverty line and have had significant obstacles to overcome in their lives.

My Project

Our students have little interaction with nature; the outdoors for most is pavement and concrete. By purchasing supplies to help integrate science curriculum with our school garden, we are providing these students an opportunity to learn about nature and experience it directly, both in the classroom and outdoors.

Gardens do more than grow plants; they also grow communities.

Studies have shown that neighborhoods with community gardens experience a drop in crime. School-based gardens have been associated with a rise in standardized test scores and an increase in student resilience. Gardens are places where people gather, places to work side-by-side with others towards common goals. You can help our kids discover these benefits! These materials allow teachers to integrate their curriculum with our garden.
