Help me give my students the Harkness table that they deserve and that will accelerate their learning and engagement in my English and Research courses. I've trained in Harkness pedagogy at Phillips Exeter Academy.

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I’m passionate about nurturing thoughtful, engaged learners who aren’t afraid to share their ideas. In my classroom, seminar discussions aren’t just conversations—they’re dynamic explorations where every student’s voice matters. I’m requesting a Harkness discussion table create a dedicated space for these rich, student-led discussions.

How this table will make a difference:

The Harkness table will transform our classroom by replacing makeshift furniture with a purpose-built, versatile space that encourages collaboration. This table will drive student engagement by fostering an environment where ideas can be exchanged freely and debates can evolve organically. I recently participated in a one-week intensive workshop in Harkness pedagogy at Phillips Exeter Academy, and I’ve seen firsthand how a properly arranged space can deepen learning and critical thinking.

Project goals:

My goal is to elevate our seminar discussions into immersive, high-level learning experiences that challenge students to think critically and work collaboratively. The table isn’t just a piece of furniture—it’s a tool that supports the pedagogical approach I believe in. By having a dedicated, well-designed space for discussions, I aim to:

Enhance student engagement and accountability during class seminars.

Foster a community of respectful, thoughtful discourse.

Build confidence in students as they learn to articulate and defend their ideas.

What makes my students special:

My students are a diverse group of bright, resilient, and creative thinkers from an urban public high school. Their determination and collaborative spirit make them truly exceptional. With the support of this table, I can provide them with a learning experience that mirrors the innovative environments found in top academic institutions—an experience that validates their potential and drives them to achieve even greater heights.

Thank you for considering our project and for helping us transform our classroom into a space where every discussion counts.
