My Project

I work with third through fifth grade students in math. In my intervention groups, we have a ticket system to reinforce hard work and positive effort. We are focused on the process before the end product. Students have opportunities to earn a ticket each day if they are safe, respectful, and responsible. At any time, students who are working extra hard may earn bonus tickets. On Friday, we have a raffle and one student is chosen for a prize. The prize box is getting low, so I am hoping this project will help restock the prize box with engaging rewards.

They are learning responsibility and independence through hard work, and the students thrive on this predictable routine.

Our math group is only for 30 minutes a day, so we need a simple behavior management system. They know that there are expectations, and the incentive is working hard (rather than just bribing). The nice thing about this system is that while the students are enjoying it, they are also not guaranteed a prize. So, they are focusing on the process of hard work, and they are rewarded for the process (rather than immediate gratification). My students are thriving, and this small reward system has helped them to have some fun while they enjoy learning!
