My Students

Our school community faces inequities that are grounded in structural racism and are maintained by systems and laws designed to perpetuate their influence on the communities most impacted by them. Prolonged exposure to inequities can cause Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) which disproportionately impact communities of color. Addressing these inequities is the foundation of our effort to establish Stanton as community school and community resource for the families who attend our school.

The Minds Organization in Washington, DC provides educators with the beautiful opportunity to show up for themselves in a way that promotes stress reduction, and increases happiness!

"Educating the mind without educating the Heart is no Education at all"- Aristotle Communities of color are more likely to face inequities in income, wealth, neighborhood infrastructure, affordable housing, stable employment, and education.

Our school community faces inequities that are grounded in structural racism and are maintained by systems and laws designed to perpetuate their influence on the communities most impacted by them. Prolonged exposure to inequities can cause Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) which disproportionately impact communities of color. Addressing these inequities is the foundation of our effort to establish Stanton as community school and community resource for the families who attend our school. Our focus on strengthening community health and wellness using trauma-informed approaches is one strategy we are employing to address racial inequities. The Teacher Mindfulness and Stress Reduction Project is a critical part of our community wellness strategy. By focusing on teachers – building their coping skills and resilience – we are modeling positive approaches to dealing with stress and anxiety and are establishing a safe and stable classroom environment. In doing so, we are offering an alternative model to the often chaotic and stress filled environment in which our students are living,; laying a foundation for how to advance their own social and emotional competencies.
