My Students

"There are no prerequisites for worthiness," Brene Brown. This is the simple and profound message that I want my students to believe. They are worthy of love, belonging, care, and compassion. No matter what they bring to the table, they are worthy.

My counseling students need the tools to engage in the hard and vulnerable work of exploring what makes them happy, what troubles them most, and how to tap into their strongest selves.

At EVCS, our goal is for our students to be confident, kind, and ready to contribute towards positive social change in the community and world around them.

My Project

All of the books I've requested are resources that will help me deliver a productive therapeutic experience to my students. They will help me maintain a productive and effective practice. For example, one of the books I've requested, THINKING, FEELING, BEHAVING: AN EMOTIONAL EDUCATION CURRICULUM FOR CHILDREN, contains creative and easy-to-do activities. The activities include games, stories, role plays, writing, drawing, and brainstorming. Each activity is identified by grade level and categorized into one of five important topic areas: Self-Acceptance; Feelings; Beliefs and Behavior; Problem Solving and Decision Making; and Interpersonal Relationships.

Another of the books I've requested, GUIDANCE WITH GOOD MEASURE, contains lessons that get students moving, get their brains in gear, and make them think outside the box.

These lessons will challenge students to consider their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in a variety of ways. Concepts like Delayed Gratification, Intrinsic versus Extrinsic Motivation, Solution Focused Conflict Resolution and much more are are explored.

The students will learn through role-plays, games, and interesting activities.
