This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Flexible Seating? What does that even mean?! Do you know the feeling when you've had too many cups of coffee and you can't stop bouncing your feet around? For our students with hyperactivity (and there is A LOT of them in our integrated classrooms), their impulses to move around are so significant that learning is disrupted until those movement needs are met. That's where flexible seating comes in. Bouncy Bands are a discreet form of flexible seating, as students can kick the bands on the desk without making noise or damaging desks and chairs.

Our kids with what I like to call "Happy Feet" (who often have an ADHD and/or Autism diagnosis) need movement to learn.

While we incorporate opportunities for movement as frequently as possible, constantly walking, jumping, or even dancing around the classroom isn't exactly conducive to learning to identify figurative language or write a well-developed argumentative essay. If this project were to be funded, every desk in our classroom would be equipped with a Bouncy Band. This would transform our students' ability to sustain attention for prolonged periods of time and regulate their own emotions. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
