My Project

I teach in 5th grade in Wasilla Alaska, and this year my students have chosen the theme of space. This will be my second year with these amazing kids who often go above and beyond to support each other and myself. Due to a wonderful grant from Alaska DEED, my classroom will have tons of books and activities for students to help them in any future STEM activities they might like to do, but I am missing a few desired pieces of decor. I have curtains, but no curtain rods. I have a solar system covering an entire back wall, but no stars students can sticker-up when they ace a test. I have a dark room, but no flashlights for reading in space. I have computers, but no way for students to hear from mission control. We have cosmonauts, but no shuttles!

All items below will help us build and explore our deep-space classroom.

Students will be studying famous aeronauts and cosmonauts, constellations and their stories from different cultures, and the history of the space race linking into all main areas of study. Our end-of-the-year overnight fieldtrip will be to the Kenai Space Center. For small town Alaska, giving them the universe is the least we can do.
