Help me give my students the opportunity to enhance letter and sound identification skills through the use of hands-on activities such as
alphabet puzzles, alphabet beads, and alphabet/sound learning tubs.
Learning to read does not develop naturally. Many children require direct and explicit instruction, plus extended practice in the essential components of reading. The materials I am requesting will give my kindergarten students exposure to and practice with early reading phonics skills through engaging and hands-on learning activities. Students will have the opportunity to use these materials during whole group learning time, small group guided instruction and independent work stations.
These hands-on resources will give my students exposure to visual, kinesthetic, and tactile phonics activities, thus allowing my kindergarten students to engage in whole brain learning as they embark on their journey to becoming successful readers.
The science of reading identifies phonics as one of the five essential components in helping students become proficient readers. Phonics teaches students how to connect sounds with letters or spelling and how to use sound/spelling relationships to read and spell words. These hands-on alphabet/sound activities will support students in the area of phonics as they build foundational reading skills.
