My Students

I teach kindergarten at a Title I school in Las Vegas, NV. All of our students get free breakfast and lunch and I try to supply as much as I can for them.

Teaching kindergarten is a challenge.

Twenty-something five year olds enter your classroom after never being away from their parents. And you teach them independence, to read and write, and to problem solve.

The best part of the school year is the end. You get to see all their growth! And you get to enjoy the last weeks of school by participating in STEAM projects, classroom plays, kindergarten graduation, and field day. This year, we didn't get to spend our last two months together. It is like reading a story with no ending.

Distance learning is a whole new challenge. I post as many videos as I can for students to practice and refine skills they already have, but kindergarten isn't meant to be taught online. Kindergarten deserves to be fun and hands on. And luckily for me, I get to take that hands on learning with my class to first grade in the 2020-2021 school year.

My Project

Lucky for me, I get to bring my current class of kinders with me to first grade! This year, we missed out on the best part of school and I want to be able to give them those experiences when we go back in the fall.

I want to facilitate hands-on math and science centers to help them explore and create experiences that will help them retain all the information we are discovering.

Research shows that putting play back into learning has positive effects on how well the students learn the material.
