Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Students in my class were retained in third grade for the 2016-2017 school year. Their self-esteem is low, especially when they see their peers who have been promoted to the next grade. The demographics of the school is 90% Hispanic. Most students are from Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua and right here in the neighborhood. This is a Title I school which means 99% of the students are on free lunch. The social economic status is poor. These students' parents do not know English which makes it hard for the student to retain the language. The students here need help in comprehension, phonics, and grammar.

My Project

These tablets will enable me and my students to work together to increase their comprehension of the English Language. This will allow them to simultaneously work online while I teach. We have a new program call Nearpod. It is a program designed just for English Learners. I am able to see them do their work live and give instant feedback. The feedback will allow me communicate with them on their tablets before a learning error is made. Some students hold on to strategies that are not effective: these tablets will enable me to monitor and give instant feed back. I can guide their learning.
