My Students

I teach 18-21-year-old students that receive special education instruction transition services. My students all have mixed interests, a wide range of abilities, but one thing they have in common is that they all share the same love for learning and preparing for the real world.

As their educational advocate, my intentions are to help them develop skills to be self-advocates and become lifelong learners.

My Project

In a young person's final years of schooling, the final goal for all students is to become independent or receive supported services for gainful competitive employment or be enrolled in a post-secondary school of choice. My students will benefit from these resources for exclusive use for them to complete their transition goals.

Also, students will be reassured that they have resources that are practical and will apply in the real world.

When students are linked to the world of school and work it reduces truancy and dropout rates. Students participate in career activities exposing them to non-traditional careers with Work-Based Learning Environments in the local community. These various opportunities are from volunteer vocational training to paid internships to competitive employment.

Much of our students' previous curriculum centered around going out in the community for life skills and vocational instruction. Because of the coronavirus, we are unable to go out into the community fully due to being vaccinated or not. In order to continue working on these skills with my students, I would like to create a library of task boxes that help my students work on vocational (order fulfillment, assembly, sorting) tasks.
