My Project

My preK class is located in New London, CT. We are a 4 year old program in a new building. As we begin to establish our roots, we are finding that our students struggle with sensory needs as well as regulating their emotions. Some of our needs include a cabinet with doors, sensory table, noise cancelling headphones, weighted items (blankets/lap pads) as well as sensory tools. Many students based on needs struggle with identifying his/her feelings. Therefore, making it necessary to focus our time on sensory and language development. Often times in Prek children need multiple tools to help them begin to help regulate their emotions. Our biggest need in our classroom is storage that can be "closed" to 3, 4 and 5 year old hands. Therefore, making a closet with doors a necessity!

My classroom consists of 15 children, of which 50% of my students receive special education services.

Many of my students have experienced some sort of trauma during their short 4/5 years of age. This project would help me be able to to help meet some of their sensory needs within our classroom. Our district is currently in a 8 million dollar budget deficit therefor making it necessary to "think out of the box" for funding and supplies.
