My Project

Seventh grade is an odd age group because they are right in the middle of their K-12 education journey. They are curious but too cool to admit it sometimes. Other times, they surprise me with the simple things that bring them joy. These past five years of teaching have been a wild ride, but I truly love the variety I get to experience each day with them.

One of the changes I had to make during the Covid pandemic was switching from hands-on activities to digital materials.

What I am seeing now is that because the students had so much digital content during the Pandemic years they are currently having a hard time connecting with the material and with each other. I would really like to go back to more hands-on activities whether that be using task cards, creating models, and using diagrams to help them understand the lessons better. These supplies will help me create activities for my students. With more materials I will need some more storage containers. The pandemic has also brought about an alarming decrease of motivation and engagement. I really want my students to be excited about learning again.

Oklahoma revised the state standards and seventh grade got an overhaul. These materials would go a long way in helping us teach these standards that are new to us. The requested materials would really help expose students to science and how it impacts their daily lives. These resources would help provide students with different experiences and real life examples of the topics we will study. My goal is to help students understand the natural world around them and appreciate all it has to offer. I believe my students would really benefit from hands-on learning right now.
