Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Remember how much you loved reading your science textbook in elementary school? Not much, right? My students feel the same way! My second graders need hands-on materials and meaningful literature to connect their learning to!

My students are fabulous second graders who love learning!

I teach at a high-needs school in an urban city in Illinois. 95% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch. My students need and deserve the highest quality education possible. Right now the district is in a serious budget crisis, which leaves very little money for enrichment materials.

My Project

I am so excited to teach this thematic unit on frogs! Animals are always a hit with second graders, and I think focusing on one animal in all areas of the curriculum (reading, writing, math, and science) will be a great experience. I look forward to seeing their faces as they watch the tadpoles grow legs and lose their tales! It will make paragraph writing a lot more exciting to teach when my students can't wait to write about frogs! I plan to use all of the great literature to teach non-fiction reading strategies as well as to engage students and build background knowledge about the topic.

Please help me teach science the way it should be taught - through hands-on and meaningful activities!

Let's help our future scientists develop their critical thinking skills and creativity that will in turn lead to great questions and even better answers. My goal is to foster a love for learning in my students. I know this frog unit will help accomplish that goal!
