My Students

My students are diverse. They come from many different backgrounds. This neighborhood has many new immigrants. Our students vary from regular education kids to mainstream kids as well as 12:1 kids.

Our school's motto is "Committed to Excellence." We strive to give our students the best resources we can.

Many of them need hands-on materials and manipulatives so that they can "see" what is happening. Most days we break up into small groups to do mini-lessons to review or strengthen concepts.

Our goal is to try our best to help the kids meet their goals!

My Project

Students are created with an inquiring mind. This is why they ask so many questions. It shows their curiosity about the world around them. However, they are not always given the opportunities to explore and learn! I'm hoping that my students can be engaged and grasp important science concepts using these materials and kits. Students learn best when they learn themselves through their own experiences. Through an after school family engagement event, parents and students will explore and learn together. Parents will build and design a boat with their child and then they get to test it out with the STEM Boats Kit. They can use the stethoscopes to learn more about their bodies by listening to each other's heart beats. Families will get to build different types of buildings to see if their designs can actually withstand an earthquake! This is an important and exciting chance for parents to "see" why it is important to be involved in the learning processes of their own children.
