Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I absolutely love my students’ enthusiasm for exploring the world around them. Their natural curiosity and eagerness to learn make every day in the classroom exciting. They ask thoughtful questions, observe with wonder, and are always ready to dive into hands-on activities. As young scientists, they thrive when given the opportunity to explore concepts through interactive and sensory-rich experiences. This project will provide them with the tools to do just that.

The materials I’m requesting will transform our science center into a hub of exploration and discovery.

Sensory fidget toys will help students focus while engaging their sense of touch, creating a calming and productive environment. The magnet set will allow them to investigate the principles of magnetism in a tangible way. A rock collection will give them a hands-on introduction to geology, while insects in resin will help them closely study details of the natural world. Magnifying glasses and tweezers will foster fine motor skills and curiosity as they examine objects up close. Weather toys will make abstract concepts like temperature and precipitation come to life, and life cycle models will teach them about growth and change in an interactive way.

My goal for this project is to provide my students with hands-on tools that nurture their curiosity and deepen their understanding of scientific concepts. These resources will encourage them to observe, experiment, and ask questions—skills that are essential for lifelong learning.

What makes my students special is their resilience and determination. Many of them are emergent bilinguals who are not only learning new academic concepts but also mastering a new language. Despite these challenges, they approach every day with excitement and an incredible capacity for learning. These materials will give them the opportunity to explore science in a way that is meaningful and tailored to their unique strengths.
