My Students

I have the most amazing students! We are a Title I school with students from a broad range of backgrounds and experiences.

One of the best things about first graders is that they love to learn!

Each year, my approximately 25 energetic and fun first-grade students' favorite memories include daily read alouds, literacy and math stations, STEM projects and experiments, singing, dancing, and a variety of different art and writing projects.

My district's current plan is to teach entirely virtually for at least the first semester. But this doesn't have to mean that the fun has to stop! I want my students to have and use a variety of hands-on manipulatives and tools that will mirror the activities that we would have used in the classroom. This is where you come in! Are you ready to help?

My Project

With at least a semester of virtual learning ahead of us, it is critical that my students have hands-on tools like magnetic letters and boards, sound boxes, and dry erase boards that they can touch and use. Scholastic magazines are always an important part of our home connection, but this year they will be one of the few opportunities that our students have to hold and not just view print. I am also asking for modeling clay which builds the hand muscles necessary for writing. Finally, I am requesting enough hand puppets for each child to be able to use as their at-home partner. We will use these puppets for our "turn and talks" to practice important conversation skills that will be more limited with virtual learning. The tote bags will be used to keep all of our literacy materials together and organized.

Virtual learning can still be fun, interactive, and very hands-on for our youngest learners.

These tools will help to make sure that we continue to provide opportunities for developing fine motor skills, play, and social-emotional learning. Thank you for helping to provide these important tools for my class!
