My Project

As an intervention specialist, I have the pleasure of working with all the students and teachers K-5 at my school site. I am excited to be able to support teachers as well as students, helping ALL students experience success in reading.

This project will help me get the necessary materials for direct, explicit hands-on instruction to each student in first and second grade at my school.

With great excitement, my school district funded the implementation of UFLI (University of Florida Literacy Institute). UFLI "is an ongoing effort by UF faculty and students to improve literacy outcomes for struggling students by addressing two key areas: reader development and teacher development." It provides teachers with online access to lessons and tools, as well as a thorough teacher's manual. The program recommends the use of work mats and elkonin boxes to make the greatest impact. The magnets and writing tablets necessary to get work mats and writing tools in the hands of all learners will be funded through this project.
