Hands On Music in the 21st Century

Help me give my students the opportunity to create meaningful, memorable, and modern music in the general music classroom! Students will be able to compose both digitally and physically with these additions to our classroom.

My Project

The needs of students are rapidly changing as the years go by, and nowhere is that more apparent than in the general music classroom. Children are the tastemakers when it comes to what's popular in the music world, and their classrooms should reflect that!

With the addition of MIDI Controllers in the classroom, students will be able to learn how to operate a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) and how to create beats with their computers.

Students will also be able to understand the fundamentals of keyboard playing, as the controller doubles as a digital keyboard the students can use on their computers. With the MIDI keyboards, students will be able to create full-fledged songs with a backing track, vocals, samples, and whatever else the DAW allows, from the comfort of their Chromebooks and home PCs.

The xylophones will also allow students to create music in a traditional band setting. With the addition of 25 xylophones, students will be able to make music on a physical instrument, alongside their peers in the classroom. Having instruments for students to play in the general music classroom will open their eyes to the world of instrumental music, teach them the fundamentals of how sound travels in music, and allows them to make music in a more traditional sense in a group setting.

Many students in our district do not have the means to rent or purchase a musical instrument on their own, and having instruments in the classroom can be a perfect way to introduce a world to students that may never have been able to see on their own.
