My Project

As a literacy and history middle school teacher, keeping students engaged at all times is essential. The goals of this project are to foster and to promote the connection between literacy skills and social studies content by finding ways to make learning hands-on and minds-on.

It is very important for students to build foundational knowledge of historical time periods, geography skills, and the analysis of diverse print and media content related to history, fiction, and non-fiction.

The hole punch will provide students with the opportunity to create primary and secondary source inspired booklets based on the historical content learned. Creation of these booklets will require close reading and text analysis from a variety of sources; highlighting key information is aligned to this process.

It is also essential for students to cultivate public speaking skills, which is the purpose of the request for the speaker and the microphone amplifier. The usage of the write and wipe maps will be utilized by the students during both whole group and small group learning to synthesize understanding of geographical content aligned to history and literacy. At times, more focus and independent learning is required, therefore headphone usage will promote student focus on task completion when shifting from whole group and small group exercises.

My students are special because they have a desire to learn about the world around them because they are motivated to prepare for the future. I love that my students are captivated by learning about history and they are always eager to engage in learning to satisfy their curiosity about diverse topics.
